About WREN

WREN (Wildlife Rescue and Emergency Network) is a first point of contact service for wildlife-related concerns in the North Northamptonshire area.

Delivered by Kettering Nature Group in partnership with New Gap Charity, WREN exists to support people when they encounter wildlife and are unsure what to do.

What WREN does
WREN coordinates animal welfare cases by providing advice, helping assess situations, and supporting practical next steps. This may include guidance, safe containment, arranging transport, and connecting with veterinary practices and wildlife rehabilitators. Our role is to ensure animals receive appropriate care, and that people feel confident in how to respond.

Our role
Wildlife rescue often involves multiple people and organisations. Without coordination, situations can become unclear or delayed. WREN helps bring clarity and structure by acting as a first point of contact, supporting decision making, reducing unnecessary intervention, and helping animals reach appropriate care.

WREN does not replace vets or wildlife rehabilitators. We work alongside them, helping ensure animals reach the right care quickly and safely.

Education
Education supports this work by helping people understand wildlife behaviour, recognise normal situations, and respond appropriately when help is needed.

WREN is a growing initiative, continuing to build a network of partners, volunteers, and organisations in North Northamptonshire to support wildlife and the communities around them.
